Making the Connection

The consciousness of the world is changing. More people are becoming aware of our impact on the environment, and more people are starting to realize that we are all creators who attract what is in our thoughts and hearts. I have been personally drawn to learning more about the law of attraction and our concepts of God. I have been immersing myself in the teachings of Abraham/Hicks, Dr. Wayne Dyer, and Neale Donald Walsch. They are all teaching the same basic concepts but from their own perspective.

For many years, I have felt that God was the sum total of everyone and everything and that we are all pieces of God. No one is more special or higher than another. We are the branches of the tree and God is the root. We are sparks of the flame, but God is the fire. We all come from the same source. We are all connected.

Coming from this point of view, my veganism is strengthened, and I have to ask the question: why aren't people who care about love, compassion and oneness vegan? If we are moving from separation to oneness, then why aren't animals also seen as part of God? Why do we separate animals into the categories of food, pets, test subjects, and beasts of burden? The animals who are called pets are not different from the ones we call dinner. The animal who gives birth has the same desire as I to nurture its offspring and cares for its wellbeing. While there are some differences between species, we all know love and suffering. As we try to overcome sexism, racism, classism, etc, we should also try to overcome our speciesism.
