Ok, assuming you've read it by now, now you will understand when I say WTF? The statement by the Cargill representative said,
"We believe the reason for the animals balking, or not moving forward, was that there were too many people present during the audit, distracting the animals," he said. Klein said there were two or three additional government people and three or four additional Cargill employees on hand."
The statement almost made me go cross-eyed! The truth is that the animals balked and didn't move forward because they knew they were being led to their deaths. Anyone with a functioning brain would understand that. Having said that, I realize that there are still some people who make believe that animals (besides their pets) are stupid and don't mind being abused, raped, and slaughtered. Humans in power always find a way to justify cruelty to those they have power over - whether it is non-humans or people with a different race, gender or sexual orientation. They like to make believe the others are below them, and their pain is either non-existent or it does not matter.
The slaughterhouse industry is not humane. The purpose of a slaughterhouse is to kill. If your job is to kill others, you have to repress a part of your humanity. You leave your compassion at the door so that you can torture and kill another being. Slaughterhouse workers often become abusers at home (you read about this in a book called Slaughterhouse). Although some people who kill do it with compassion, such as a veterinarian who euthanizes an animal who is in a lot of pain and dying, these are not the kind of people who are in these slaughterhouses. Even the "humanely raised" animals go to the same places the factory farmed animals go to get killed.
